My Files / Inbox

Every user has their own inbox that displays the files you have uploaded.

ImageDirector has been designed to be as intuitive as possible for its users. We have adopted the language and terminology common in your workplace to provided the lowest amount of training overhead possible.  As such all images uploaded to the system by a user will immediately be available from that user's inbox.  Much as email is generally located within a user's inbox within mailing applications.  Every user's inbox is completely unique allowing for assurance for file locations.  The user is expected to look in their inbox for any files they upload and categorize them appropriately from there.

The Inbox feature can be found under the Admin section of the navigation menu on the left side of your screen.

Depending on the setup of your system and the user account privileges associated with your User ID not all of the options to the left may be visible, however as long as you have the ability to Upload to the system you should see the Inbox or a similarly named option under the Admin section. Due to ImageDirector's flexibility, particularly with custom specific naming of features "Inbox" may not in some cases be the name of your Inbox.  The feature however will function as described within this help file.

The Inbox will also appear under the Categories section when an asset, or multiple assets are within the Inbox.  When empty the Inbox will not appear in the Categories section.  This is because the Categories section lists areas of the system where there are assets that you can view, modify, and download.  If there are no assets within the Inbox, or any category for that matter the category will not appear within the Categories section.

After uploading files the inbox is where you first catalogue and edit the image data by placing it into a category and assigning privileges, keywords and descriptors.

Some file types, such as Microsoft PowerPoint files (.ppt, .pps), Word (.doc, .dot), Visio (.vsd,.vdx), CorelDraw (.cdr), PhotoShop (.psd), will have their thumbnails and preview files created by a process outside ImageDirector. When you upload these files you will see this animated image in your Inbox.

The original presentation or file will have been uploaded and you can go to the Edit Image Data screen to put it in a category, add keywords etc. new image. In general, the larger the file, the longer the conversion process will take. Click the Refresh icon to view the converted thumbnail. After conversion you will be able to preview your PowerPoint presentation with the QuickViewer in the Preview window.

Password Protected Thumbnail

Some PowerPoint files will have password protection assigned to the file and thus automatic thumbnail creation wil not be possible. remove the password protection on the file if you wish to have thumbnails of each slide in the presentation created automatically or you can assign a single viewable image for this file by clicking the pencil icon and opening the Edit Image Data screen.
